Jeff Neumann’s work appeared in six exhibitions over fifty years of making. He imagined 163 rooms—walls, crowds, galleries that never held his work. All are flagged as composites. The 87 studio views gathered here are not among them: that basement room is real, and the work was made in it.
CODA — A GENRE OF ONE
It would be easy — and wrong — to read these 250 works as compensation, as a sad substitute for the recognition that mostly didn’t come. Jeff’s own testimony refuses that reading. Asked why he kept making things for fifty years, he answered in terms of the making itself: satisfaction, materials, the next piece.
