that were real
One hundred and fifty-nine works in this catalogue are photographs of exhibitions that never happened — rooms he built so the work would have somewhere to hang. These are the galleries that did exist. He built all eight of them himself, between 2000 and 2021: portfolio sites, his own site under a working name, a page made with a grandson. Each is preserved exactly as it was, framework and all. They still run. Open any of them.

Hand-authored HTML
Every tag written by hand. Tables as layout. No frameworks existed yet.
2000
jQuery Era
JavaScript becomes usable. jQuery dominates for DOM manipulation. Mobile web emerging.
2014–2018
Adobe Muse (WYSIWYG)
Visual editors become viable. Desktop software exports to web. Bootstrap influences responsive design.
2015–2020
Bootstrap & Frameworks
Grid systems, pre-built components. CSS becomes systematic. Responsive design standard.
2020
Adobe Portfolio (Cloud)
Cloud platforms, hosted builders. No server management. Templates dominate.
2021
2000s
CSS1 in mainstream, but JavaScript is still toy-level. Tables are grid layout. Mobile web doesn't exist. Speed means dial-up; bandwidth matters.
2010s
Mobile changes everything. Responsive design is new. jQuery dominates. Bootstrap launches 2011. "Flat design" reacts to Retina displays. CSS gains flexbox.
2020s
Frameworks fight it out: React, Vue, Svelte compete. CSS Grid lands. CSS-in-JS becomes standard. The "JavaScript framework as default" moment.
